Dream Team Challenge Blog #3 Week 5

Because of the Dream Team Challenge opening that happened last week, we were told that there would be no class today and we were required to brainstorm on some ideas, sketch some concepts and get more ideas on how our application is going to look like and how it will work.So what me and my FCM teammate Ira have done over the week,is that we have did some research and looked for some inspiration through google images, and Pinterest. There were a lot of inspiration and ideas that we have gained over the week. These are some of the precedent studies that have done our research on.

Precedent Studies

1.

The Sims 4 (2014)

Our whole game concept is inspired by The Sims. What we were thinking of our art style for the game is similar to what The Sims use. They use a cartoonish style which in my opinion, it doesn't require a lot of professional software development or Game Engines.Although developing a game, isn't simple as it looks or sounds. If we were to use very realistic graphics, it might ruin the frame rate on the user's devices which causes their experience to become unsatisfying due to the lags and frame rate drop.

Main Menu

The menu looks simple, and that's what we want to have for our app. Because our app is targeted for kids and teens aging from 7-17 years old, we don't want the main menu to look too complicated and contains too many buttons to click. This could cause confusion towards them especially if it's their first time running the app.

Character and Art Style

This is what The Sims characters look like when it's on their default character design setting.

Sims Customization
In our game, we would also like to include the character customization so that, the user's will feel more free in the game and not too limiting. Most games do not have this mode which makes it feel slightly boring because, user's don't get to experience their creations, leveling up, gaining points, upgrading things and many more. They only get to see what is already done for them and that's what they're going to see.

2.
 TellTale Games
TellTale Games is the most popular game company for developing games that require the users to make decisions with provided choices during the gameplay or during a scene. It is said that, EVERY choice matters. No matter what choice the users pick, that's where the story will carry on. This is the kind of idea we want in our game because we want our user's to feel free when playing as mentioned before.

The Walking Dead Game (2012) Main Menu
For our main menu based on our inspiration towards TellTale Games, we want our main menu to look something like this one.The main menu very simple and very straightforward. The background would be slideshows of images from the game. But for our idea, we thought of having slideshows of images from the game and custom images that the user's can upload to.Whether it's screenshots, camera photos, downloads, etc.

Character and Art Style
One thing to notice about TellTale Games is their art style.Their characters look comic-like and realistic as well. I personally love this kind of style and I hope we can get our game to be designed similar to this but with our own idea and concept.
